Sol’s + Posto: Pat’s ‘King of Steaks’ Culinary Event
Join us on Monday, November 25th, 2024, as Sol’s teams up with Posto Pizzeria to bring you an evening of Philadelphia flavors, mouthwatering dishes and classic drinks.
The origins of the Philly Cheesesteak are credited to Pat Olivieri, a hot dog cart owner in the 1930’s.
He wanted to have other offerings beyond a hotdog, so they started by grilling thin shaved beef, piled high on a roll, and topped with grilled onions. It wasn’t until the ’40’s that cheese was added to create what we recognize now as the Philly Cheesesteak. Pat Olivieri’s modest hot dog cart became ‘Pat’s King of Steaks,’ which is still operational and one of the most popular cheesesteak shops in Philadelphia.
The team at Sol’s saw an opportunity to bring this to Calgary, so, they hopped on a plane and spent a week in Philadelphia, for some delicious research. over the course of 4 days, they consumed 20 or so of these sandwiches, from every corner of Philly, to get a feel and a taste for what a real authentic cheesesteak should be.
This. Is what a Cheesesteak is…
The goal at Sol’s is to pay homage to that messy, delicious sandwich. They are using 100% Alberta ribeye, arguably some of the best beef in the world, and locally sourced bread. They offer some of the more modern takes of the original sandwich, as well as an original.
